Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)
Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a tool often used in broader decision-making processes such as policies, plans or programs. This process provides a preliminary assessment of decisions that take into account environmental, social and economic factors.
The main purpose of the SEA is to ensure that planned policies, plans or programs are compatible with environmental objectives by assessing environmental impacts in advance. This process aims to integrate environmental sustainability principles, protect natural resources and minimize environmental impacts.
The WFD process consists of a number of stages:
Initial Phase
The objectives and scope of the planned policy, plan, or program are defined.
Determination of Environmental Conditions
The current environmental situation is analyzed and the environmental impacts of the planned activity are taken into account.
Evaluation of Alternatives
The environmental impacts of different options are compared in terms of sustainability and compliance.
Evaluation and Reporting
The Turkish translation of "Environmental impacts and risks are assessed in detail, and a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) report is prepared and presented to decision-makers.
Public Participation
The opinions of the public and relevant stakeholders are sought and their participation in the process is encouraged.
Decision-Making Process
The SEA report helps decision makers make informed decisions in the design and implementation of a policy, plan or programme.
By integrating environmental values into decision-making processes, WFD supports long-term sustainability and environmental protection goals. This process contributes to increasing environmental awareness and taking environmental factors into account in planning and policy-making processes.
